Website Development

Web Design is rapidly evolving. You may have heard that computer technology makes a giant leap every 18 months or so, well the Web is making comparable leaps almost monthly, it seems. Right now some of the hot technologies are Java, Shockwave, CGI and Active Server Pages.

We're keeping up with it all, as it comes along. You can count on us to be on top of any hot new thing on the Web.

Design is never the same client-to-client. Everyone's needs are different. The first thing you as a businessperson need to do is to come up with all that you want to say or do or show in your website. You know your business better than anyone else. You're the one who knows what messages are important to get across to your prospective customers. Don't worry too much about where it will all go; that's our job. We do, however, need to be aware of the order of importance of your information so we can lead the viewer's eye from area to area. We need to know what you want to accomplish with the site, even if in vague terms to start with. Do you want to sell something over the Internet? Do you want to accept credit cards online? Do you want a guestbook, a feedback form, a catalog? Do you want to provide information that is frequently updated, such as an online newsletter? We need to get a feel of how much you want to put into the site. We can always add more; we need you to tell us where to stop. There are many possibilities. You don't need to fully understand the technical side of things to know what as a businessperson you would like to get out of your website.

If you are a designer yourself and would like to design your site in PageMaker or Quark or something like that, we will try to get as close to your design as possible. You must realize that the Web does not have the same flexibility with design as design programs like the ones mentioned above.

We would love to be able to give a specific price for design, but that is impossible. Seldom are two Web pages alike. We can tell you we've started some folks out for as little as $450. Now that's a pretty basic site, but it's a start, and it can be added to anytime!

Most of our clients get in from $1500 to $2000, which typically buys them up to ten pages, depending on content. The more graphics, scripts, etc., the more difficult the page. (By the way, when we say "page" , we mean roughly 81/2" X 11" to 81/2" X 14" - somewhere in there.) A page with a lot of text is less time-consuming, but there is something to be said for images. An old saying in the restaurant business is that "eye appeal is half the meal".

If your website is complicated to the point where it utilizes CGI, Java and the like, well now we're talking about getting into the meat of computer programming. Real nerd stuff. To have original code written for a specific unique purpose can be costly. That's the bad news. The good news is that what most clients will ever need in this area is already put together. We've invested a great deal of time to this end, saving a few clients potentially thousands of dollars in programming costs.
